I have kissed my kids on the lips since they were born and it's never seemed anything but normal to me. I kiss their cheeks, their foreheads, their tummies, their toes, and yes, their lips. My daughter and I give a peck-on-the-lips goodbye kiss every day at preschool drop-off. I kiss my son good morning when I get him from his crib. This is odd?
The article raised the question of whether kissing on the lips is too sexual (um, no) and commenters raised the question of whether kisses on the lips are exposing kids to too many germs. (Uh, if you have a child, you know that your closed lips are hardly the dirtiest thing they're going to touch that day!)
I do know that there is likely a point where it will probably end--when either of my kids starts to become uncomfortable with it, it will. (Though the article quotes adults who still kiss their parents on the lips!) But for now, I'm going to savor ever moment and smooch away.
Am I the only one? Do you kiss your kids on the lips? Did your parents kiss you on the lips? (Or do you still kiss your parents that way?) What do you guys think?

I kiss my babies on the lips. My family finds it offensive and you could imagine my smart a** response.
ReplyDeleteI kiss my boys on the lips. Also, my dad would probably kiss me on the lips if I let him. :) I usually turn my cheek a little so he gets me on the cheek instead. My 93 year old grandpa is a lip smacker! I try to think of it as more of a smack then a kiss! :)
ReplyDeleteYes! It's natural is is not to kiss on the lips correct???
ReplyDeleteoh, i hope so because I do it and love it!! :) I guess I'll do it until they say they don't want me to. Until then...pucker up! :)
ReplyDeleteWe did a little when ours were babies, but now we kids them more on their cheek, forehead or the top of their heads. I see nothing wrong with kissing kids on the lips though.
ReplyDeleteI read that article too and I thought it was so weird! I'll kiss my son on the lips until he's not into it. I want to give him as much affection as I can while he still lets me!
ReplyDeleteI try to kiss my kids on the lips. They don't even pucker up. They are all so silly. But, I think it's just fine.
ReplyDeleteI kiss my 2 littles on their lips and I think it's adorable too! My son is 19 months and he puckers up and it's just so sweet. How could I not?
ReplyDeleteI feel like people just look for the next thing to be offended about. You are 100% correct with all of your points. I say PUCKER UP! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely the weirdest article. WHY do people insist on making something potentially "sexual" when it totally, completely doesn't have to be? So, so weird. I think when your kids start not wanting to be kissed on the mouth (or at all!) then that would be the time to stop.... until then, kisses galore!
